After observing and assisting  the RSK response team build shelters, the community built nine Standard RSK shelters to a high standard after the team had departed.

This new method of constructing a roof frame on the ground was rapidly adopted by families as no special tools or skills are needed. Only two different lengths of bamboo are required for the roof, making assembly much easier than a lattice roof.

The complete shelter kit can be made using only a saw or machete. The kit can then be simply lashed together to make the shelter as there are no special joints.

This particular community had the added difficulty of having to use fresh cut green bamboo. In future we plan to use dried bamboo and pre-cut the bamboo so that shelter assembly can be completed in less than 2 hours.
